center — a STEAM High School program — offers a BAKING & CATERING program, where students
operate a café providing meals for approximately 700 people daily. Among other things, a culinary
professional is an artist, an intuitive business person, a scientist, and a cultural explorer.
Acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this profession is a lifelong
learning journey. Depending upon skill levels achieved, students
may enter the workforce in customer service, food production, supervision, or other positions
in this multifaceted industry. Successful culinary professionals are passionate about
their work, innovative, problem solvers, enjoy teamwork, embrace cultural differences, appreciate
critique, and strive for excellence. Eligible students gain work experience on-site
in a student entrepreneurship environment, though an authentic work place. Baking & Catering
is a rigorous program with various learning activities found in today’s commercial food
service industry. The course is U.C. “A to G” approved.
